Description
Herpes simplex virus type 2 provokes the development of herpetic lesions in the groin, buttocks, and lower extremities. The disease is manifested by a characteristic rash. Immune cells react to the presence of a virus in the body by secreting antibodies specific to it. IgM antibodies are released first, a little later – IgG antibodies (they are considered memory antibodies and persist even during the period of convalescence).
Their determination in the blood makes it possible to confirm infection with HSV type 2. The test is used to diagnose herpes and determine the activity of immunity to it.
When and who needs the test?
- preparation for pregnancy (recommended for both partners);
- signs of intrauterine infection, placental insufficiency;
- HIV infection, lymphoproliferative diseases, immunodeficiency states;
- differential diagnosis of urogenital infections;
- vesicular herpetiform rash.
