Description
An IgG test for herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 helps determine whether a person has been exposed to the herpes simplex virus in the past. A positive result indicates lifelong immunity and the possibility of periodic recurrences of the infection.
When and who needs the test?
- If herpes is suspected, especially if symptoms resolve by the time of the doctor's visit.
- For couples planning pregnancy – to detect the risk of fetal infection.
- For pregnant women – if symptoms are detected or as part of a comprehensive TORCH screening.
- For patients with frequent rashes on the lips, genitals, or face.
- To assess the infection status of one partner if the other has been diagnosed with herpes.
- If asymptomatic carriage of the herpes simplex virus is suspected.
