Description
The detection of IgG antibodies to cytomegalovirus (CMV) helps assess the body's immune response to a past infection. The presence of IgG indicates previous exposure or long-term (chronic) carriage of the virus. This information is especially important during pregnancy or in individuals with weakened immune systems.
When and who needs the test?
Who and when is testing recommended for?
- Pregnant women – to assess immune status and identify the risk of vertical transmission of the virus.
- Patients with positive IgM results – to differentiate between primary infection and reactivation.
- Immunocompromised patients – when reactivation of the infection is suspected.
- Individuals preparing for planned pregnancy, transplantation, or immunosuppressive therapy.
- For differential diagnosis of prolonged febrile illness, lymphadenopathy, or mononucleosis-like syndrome.
