2017. Hepatitis E virus (HEV), IgG antibodies
Description
Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a pathogen that can provoke inflammation of the liver tissue. It is transmitted through water, food, with which the patient has come into contact, as well as through poorly processed meat. Immediately after the development of the disease, IgM (acute phase antibodies) are released, after a while IgG begins to be released, which remain in the body for a long time and provide protection against repeated infections.
Detection of IgG antibodies in the blood indicates a long-term infection with hepatitis E or that a person has had it before. The analysis should be taken together with the determination of IgM antibodies to hepatitis E.
When and who needs the test?
- the emergence of a clinic of acute hepatitis, especially after visiting endemic regions to exclude hepatitis E together with the determination of IgM;
- examination of persons with an increased risk of infection;
- epidemiological studies.
Biological material
- Venous blood
