Description
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is the most common causative agent of hepatitis, the infection of which occurs through contact with the blood of a sick person. The immune system of an infected person reacts to the appearance of a virus in the body by secreting antibodies (IgM and IgG).
Determination of total levels of antibodies in the blood is used in screening diagnostics of hepatitis C and, if detected, requires additional tests.
When and who needs the test?
- examination of patients from risk groups;
- clinic of acute hepatitis;
- after contact with infected blood;
- a child born to a mother infected with HCV (the study is recommended at the age of 18 months);
- preparation for surgery; pregnancy and its planning.
