2008. Hepatitis B virus (HBV), HBeAg, antibodies total
Description
The test detects specific IgM and IgG antibodies to HBeAg. They can be detected in acute and chronic HBV infections and may also indicate a past infection. The appearance of antibodies after the disappearance of the antigen (HBeAg) indicates the cessation of active viral replication, a favorable course of the infection, and a probable recovery.
When and who needs the test?
- In the presence of HBV symptoms.
- In acute and chronic HBV infection.
- Before starting antiviral therapy.
- To monitor the effectiveness of the therapy.
