2007. Hepatitis B virus (HBV), HBeAg
Description
HBeAg is an antigen of the hepatitis B virus, which is one of the first to appear in the blood of a sick person. It is a marker of active multiplication of the virus and makes it possible to confirm the fact of human infection at very early stages of the disease.
The analysis is widely used for the diagnosis of acute hepatitis B and differential diagnosis of various forms of hepatitis, assessment of the effectiveness of treatment and determination of the prognosis of the disease. It is better to use it in combination with the study of other antigens of the hepatitis B virus and antibodies to them.
When and who needs the test?
Positive HBsAg results:
- assessment of the presence of replication of a wild strain of the virus, high contagiousness of the patient, during pregnancy – a high risk of infection of the fetus;
- monitoring the course of acute hepatitis B;
- monitoring the course of chronic hepatitis B (identifying the replicative stage), monitoring the effectiveness of antiviral therapy
