1261. Prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP)
Description
Prostatic acid phosphatase is an enzyme that is present in large quantities in the tissues of the prostate gland. Its levels rise quite sharply with the development of prostate cancer (PCa).
The test is used to assess the effectiveness of treatment of prostate cancer, early detection of disease recurrence and tumor metastases.
It should be given in combination with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and tissue polypeptide antigen.
