Description
The human body contains hundreds of proteins that perform many vital functions (participation in metabolic processes, transport of substances, blood clotting, and many others). Some of them are excreted unchanged through the kidneys. With impaired renal function, the amount of unchanged protein in the urine increases.
The study of protein levels in urine is widely used to diagnose kidney diseases (pyelonephritis, renal failure, and others). It should be carried out in conjunction with the assessment of levels of creatinine, creatine phosphokinase, urea nitrogen.
When and who needs the test?
- nephropathy;
- with diabetes mellitus, systemic connective tissue diseases, amyloidosis, arterial hypertension, obesity;
- to assess the risk of developing chronic renal failure and coronary heart disease in patients with kidney disease;
- when prescribing nephrotoxic drugs.
