Description
Bicarbonates are a large group of substances that keep the pH (acid-base balance) of the blood within normal limits. Changes in bicarbonate levels are observed with electrolyte disturbances, deficiency or excess of trace elements.
The test of bicarbonate levels allows diagnosing pathological changes in the acid-base balance. It should be measured in combination with the determination of the levels of potassium, magnesium, sodium.
