Description
The von Willebrand factor is one of the blood proteins that provide hemostasis processes. It promotes the attachment of platelets to damaged areas of blood vessels and the normal functioning of one of the blood coagulation factors. A decrease in the amount of von Willebrand factor in the blood or a violation of its activity leads to a tendency to bleeding.
This test is used to diagnose von Willebrand disease (pseudohemophilia), thrombotic purpura, hemolytic anemias. It is better to study it in conjunction with a coagulogram.
When and who needs the test?
- personal or family history of severe, prolonged and / or spontaneous bleeding (bleeding from the nose, gums after dental procedures, bruising after minor bumps or injuries, heavy and / or prolonged menstrual bleeding in women, blood in urine or stools, prolonged bleeding after operation);
- diagnosis of von Willebrand disease (VV) and its type.
