Description

The package includes the determination of the tumor markers HE 4 and CA 125 and the calculation of the ROMA index to assess the risk of ovarian cancer. It is used in pre- and postmenopausal women, especially those with a family history of cancer.

Package No. 7.3 combines three key indicators:

  • CA 125 – a classic marker that can be elevated in epithelial ovarian cancer, but has limited specificity;
  • HE 4 – a newer tumor marker with high specificity for diagnosing ovarian malignancies and is virtually unaffected by endometriosis, fibroids, or infection;
  • The ROMA (Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm) index is a calculated indicator that integrates HE 4, CA 125, and menopausal status levels to assess the likelihood of ovarian tumors.

By combining markers, this approach improves the accuracy of differential diagnosis between benign and malignant pelvic tumors.

Important: Elevation of one or more indicators does not necessarily confirm cancer. Further examination (ultrasound, MRI, consultation with a gynecological oncologist) is required.

When and who needs the test?

  • Women with suspected ovarian tumor based on ultrasound or gynecological examination data.
  • For a family history of ovarian or breast cancer (especially in the presence of BRCA1/2 mutations).
  • In postmenopausal patients with non-specific pelvic symptoms (bloating, pain, urination disorders).
  • To assess the risk of malignancy in case of detection of an ovarian cyst or neoplasm/
  • To monitor the effectiveness of treatment or recurrence of ovarian cancer.
  • As part of preconception or periodic gynecological examination in a high-risk group.
