Description
The HOMA index is a laboratory analogue of the gold standard diagnostic IR-euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp test. It is a standardized ratio of two parameters: glucose and insulin, measured in a single blood sample. It allows for the diagnosis of insulin resistance even with initially normal (within reference limits) insulin and/or glucose levels.
When and who needs the test?
The possibility of diagnosing insulin resistance as one of the etiological causes of the following pathological conditions:
- carbohydrate metabolism disorders;
- cardiovascular pathology;
- reproductive disorders (hyperandrogenism, infertility);
- obesity.
