Description

The male cancer panel includes five tumor markers to assess the risk of common cancers: prostate, liver, stomach, pancreas, and colon. It is recommended if a tumor is suspected or if there is a family history of the disease.

This package includes the most common cancer sites in men:

  • PSA (prostate-specific antigen, total) – a marker for prostate cancer, also elevated in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostatitis;
  • AFP (alpha-fetoprotein) – used to assess the risk of primary liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) and testicular germ cell tumors;
  • CA 19-9 – a marker for pancreatic, gallbladder, and gastrointestinal tumors;
  • CA 72-4 – a sensitive marker for gastric cancer, which may be elevated in intestinal or testicular tumors;
  • REA (carcinoembryonic antigen) – a nonspecific tumor marker that may be elevated in colorectal cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer, and liver cancer.

Elevated tumor markers do not always indicate a malignant process—levels can fluctuate with inflammatory, hyperplastic, or benign processes. This is why it's important to have them monitored dynamically and in conjunction with other diagnostic methods (ultrasound, CT, MRI, biopsy).

When and who needs the test?

  • for men over 40 – as part of preventive cancer screening;
  • for those with a hereditary predisposition to cancer (a history of cancer in the family);
  • for complaints of decreased appetite, weight loss, changes in bowel habits, abdominal or prostate pain;
  • for follow-up observation after cancer treatment (to monitor for recurrence or metastasis);
  • if pathological changes in the abdominal or pelvic organs are detected during ultrasound, CT, or MRI.
