1126. Complement (C4 component)
Description
The C4 component of complement is an indicator of the protective function of the body in infectious and autoimmune diseases. An increase in its level is noted with a deficiency of components C1q, C1r, C1s, tumors, and acute inflammatory reactions. Decrease – with hereditary angioedema, autoimmune diseases (arthritis, lupus, vasculitis), cryoglobulinemia.
This test is used to diagnose autoimmune diseases, determine the tendency to SLE, and assess the immune status.
In the complex, an test is prescribed for complement C3, IgA, IgG, IgM, antinuclear antibodies.
When and who needs the test?
- diagnosis and monitoring of autoimmune disorders, repeated bacterial infections;
- dynamic monitoring of patients with systemic autoimmune diseases (a decrease in the concentration of complement components correlates with the activity of the process);
- diagnostics of diseases: SSI, rheumatoid vasculitis, subacute bacterial endocarditis, shunt nephritis, poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis, mesangiocapillary glomerulonephritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, gram-positive bacteremia, disseminated cytomegalovirus infection.
