1119. Cholinesterase (serum)
Description
Cholinesterase (pseudocholinesterase) is an enzyme that is present in the tissues of the liver and pancreas and is involved in the metabolism of acetylcholine, one of the main neurotransmitters in the human body. Pseudocholinesterase enters the blood from the liver.
This test is specific for the diagnosis of organophosphorus poisoning, it is used to determine the risk of taking muscle relaxants (when planning surgical interventions), assessing the functional state of the liver.
When and who needs the test?
- diagnosis of probable organophosphate poisoning;
- assessment of liver function and monitoring of the state in hepatic pathology;
- risk assessment in surgical interventions with the use of muscle relaxants.
