Description
α-Amylase (diastase, urine) is a medical test that measures the level of amylase in urine. Amylase is an enzyme that helps break down carbohydrates in the body. Urine amylase testing is commonly performed to diagnose pancreatitis, inflammation of the pancreas, and evaluate mumps.
When and who needs the test?
- Diagnosis of the condition of the pancreas (acute, chronic pancreatitis).
- Monitoring the treatment of pancreatic pathology.
- Monitoring treatment for pancreatic cancer.
- Determination of the efficiency of the kidneys (comparing amylase activity in the blood and urine).
