1064. C-reactive protein (CRP)
Description
C-reactive protein is a substance that is synthesized by the liver and takes an active part in triggering immune responses. CRP is a highly sensitive indicator of the presence of inflammation, trauma, or tissue necrosis.
It is used in the diagnosis of inflammatory processes of various localization, including chronic autoimmune, oncological diseases, acute hepatitis, and to assess the response to treatment.
CRP should be taken in combination with UAC and other acute phase indicators.
When and who needs the test?
- inflammatory reactions of various nature and localization, infections, trauma and tumors, accompanied by inflammation and tissue necrosis;
- early detection of postoperative complications, transplant rejection;
- AMI monitoring;
- monitoring the treatment of bacterial infections, anti-inflammatory therapy for rheumatoid diseases;
- determination of cardiovascular risk in patients with atherosclerosis, diabetes, as well as those on chronic hemodialysis.
