Description
Magnesium is a trace element found in most cells in the body. Its greatest amount is in bone tissue. Magnesium takes an active part in the work of the nervous and cardiovascular systems, muscles.
Determination of magnesium levels is used to identify the causes of general weakness, arrhythmias, seizures, tremors, diagnose diseases of the blood, heart, and nervous system. Calcium, potassium and sodium levels should be measured along with magnesium.
When and who needs the test?
- assessment of renal function;
- disorders of the nervous system (increased neuromuscular excitability, tetany, convulsions, muscle hypotension);
- electrolyte metabolism disorders (hypocalcemia, persistent hypokalemia when taking potassium preparations);
