Description
Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) is an enzyme that is present in all metabolically active cells of the body. Its greatest amount is observed in the myocardium, skeletal muscles, liver, pancreas, spleen and nervous tissue.
A sharp change in the activity of AST in human blood is usually associated with pathological processes in the myocardium or liver. Assessment of AST activity is used in the diagnosis of heart attacks, coronary artery disease, hepatitis and other diseases of the heart and liver.
To increase the information content of the analysis, it is advisable to take it in combination with ALT, LDH, ALP, thymol test.
