1039. Immunoglobulin M (IgM, serum)
Description
Immunoglobulins M are glycoproteins that are produced during the primary immune response. Their increase may indicate an infectious process, neoplasm, liver disease, multiple myeloma, lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis. A decrease in IgM can be with hypogammaglobulinemia, burns, myeloma, and in childhood.
This test is used to assess humoral immunity, diagnose immunodeficiencies and intrauterine infections.
In the complex, the determination of the level of IgE, IgG, IgA, CEC, C-reactive protein is prescribed.
When and who needs the test?
- assessment of humoral immunity;
- diagnosis of immunodeficiency states;
- differential diagnosis of acute and chronic infections (with simultaneous determination of the level of IgG);
- diagnosis of intrauterine infections;
- diagnosis of Waldenström's macroglobulinemia;
- assessment of the immune system in autoimmune pathologies, blood diseases and neoplasms;
- evaluation of the effectiveness of immunoglobulin preparations.
