Description

The set of tests included in the package will make it possible to determine the causes of exacerbated dyspeptic symptoms and assess the consequences of chronic Helicobacter-associated gastritis. Based on the results, it will be possible to decide whether additional in-depth examination is needed for more accurate diagnosis and treatment adjustment.

Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining that may be caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori or by frequent use of certain pain-relieving medications. It may occur suddenly (acute gastritis) or develop gradually (chronic gastritis). Chronic gastritis is characterized by alternating periods of exacerbation and remission. In some cases, gastritis may lead to ulcers or increase the risk of stomach cancer. However, in most people gastritis resolves quickly after treatment.

The most typical symptoms of gastritis include

  • aching pain in the upper abdomen accompanied by general weakness;
  • dyspeptic manifestations such as nausea and vomiting;
  • acidic belching due to increased production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach;
  • flatulence or bloating;
  • a feeling of heaviness in the stomach, especially after eating even a small amount of food;
  • and burning in the stomach.

In addition to laboratory tests, a full medical examination is required to diagnose gastritis. A complete blood count (CBC) includes measurement of key parameters: red blood cells, hemoglobin, white blood cells, platelets, and ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate). These indicators help assess the presence of anemia, inflammatory processes, infections, blood coagulation disorders, and other pathologies. Helicobacter pylori is one of the causes of gastritis and may progress to a chronic phase if untreated. There is a strong link between H. pylori and stomach cancer. A negative result indicates the absence of infection or a seronegative period. The presence of antibodies indicates a current or past infection.

Cortisol is a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands. It plays a direct role in the metabolism of fats and proteins and is the body’s natural response to stress, which contributes to the development of gastritis. Assessing its level helps better understand stress as a factor in the exacerbation of digestive symptoms and chronic gastritis.

Iron is a trace element responsible for oxygen transport and tissue respiration in the body. In chronic gastritis, iron absorption is impaired, which may lead to the development of anemia with characteristic signs such as pallor, weakness, and constant fatigue. Lower iron levels are one of the most common causes of anemia and may also be caused by unbalanced nutrition, inflammatory processes, or chronic diseases.
