1026. Tumor marker of pancreas, gallbladder (CA 19-9)
Description
CA 19-9 is a protein synthesized by epithelial cells of the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, prostate and salivary glands. It is a highly sensitive marker of pancreatic cancer, although it may be normal in some people, so it must be supplemented with the determination of the oncomarker CA 50, as well as CA 242.
CA 19-9 levels may increase if there are oncological processes in other organs, for example, in the liver, stomach, intestines, therefore, a complex with other oncomarkers (CA 242, CA 50, CA 72-4, PEA) is required.
When and who needs the test?
- differential diagnosis in pancreatic pathology (in combination with CA 50);
- monitoring the course of the disease, preclinical diagnosis of metastasis and evaluation of the effectiveness of ongoing therapy for pancreatic carcinoma;
- monitoring the course of the disease, preclinical diagnosis of metastasis and evaluation of the effectiveness of ongoing therapy for gastric cancer – in combination with CEA (cancer-embryonic antigen);in combination with CEA for suspected colorectal cancer;
- in combination with CA 125, HE 4 to detect mucinous forms of ovarian cancer.
