Description
CA 15-3 is a protein secreted by mammary gland carcinoma cells.
The test is used for differential diagnosis of malignant and benign tumors of the breast in combination with other indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of treatment of breast carcinoma, early detection of disease recurrence and tumor metastases. It must be taken in combination with a cancer-embryonic antigen.
May be elevated in tumors of other organs and benign diseases, in pregnant women in the third trimester.
When and who needs the test?
- monitoring the effectiveness of breast cancer treatment;
- detection of relapses of the disease;
- differential diagnosis of benign and malignant neoplasms of the mammary glands;
- obtaining information about the volume and spread of the tumor. The higher the level of CA 15-3 in the blood, the greater the mass of tumor cells in the body.
