Important information
*Test for unpregnant
*The biomaterial can be taken during the whole working day of the lab center
Description
α-fetoprotein (AFP) is a protein that is actively synthesized by the fetus during fetal development and is almost not excreted by the human body after birth. Its levels rise in women during pregnancy. The test is used during pregnancy to screen for fetal chromosomal abnormalities and neural tube defects.
An increase in AFP levels may be associated with oncological diseases of the liver, ovaries and testicles.
The analysis is used in the diagnosis and for monitoring the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma, liver metastases of various tumors, and gonadal neoplasms.
When and who needs the test?
- in the complex of examinations on suspicion of hepatocellular carcinoma;
- liver metastasesin a complex of examinations with formations in the gonadal area (embryonic non-semyomamatous tumors of the testicles, ovaries).
- monitoring the effectiveness of treatment in patients with germline tumors or with hepatocellular carcinomamonitoring the condition of patients with cirrhosis of the liver for early detection of liver cancer;
- monitoring the condition of patients at high risk of germinal tumors (cryptorchidism, monozygotic twins, one of whom has testicular cancer);
- monitoring of patients with squamous cell neoplasms of different localizations;
- planning tactics for the treatment of patients with squamous cell carcinoma.
