1022. Osteocalcin
Description
Osteocalcin is one of the most important proteins found in bone tissue. Its production is regulated by parathyroid hormone, as well as vitamins D and K. Measuring osteocalcin levels helps assess bone metabolism and turnover.
This test is a key part of diagnosing conditions characterized by altered bone metabolism.
For optimal results, it should be combined with β-CrossLaps testing and other assessments in the calcium-phosphorus panel.
When and who needs the test?

- Paget’s disease, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, osteosarcoma, metastatic prostate or breast cancer with osteoblastic bone formation, primary hyperparathyroidism, renal osteodystrophy.
- Monitoring the effectiveness of antiresorptive therapy in patients with osteoporosis or hypercalcemic syndromes.
