9763. C1-esterase inhibitor (concentration)
Description
The C1 inhibitor is a key regulator of the complement system, the blood coagulation system and the kallikrein-kinin system. It is an acute phase protein circulating in the blood.
Determination of the concentration and activity of the C1-esterase inhibitor, together with the determination of the concentration of the C4 complement component, is used to diagnose congenital angioedema (HAE); acquired angioedema due to autoimmune diseases, cancer, or taking ACE inhibitors or making differentiations based on other pathologies.
Changes in C1 esterase inhibitor activity are not a diagnosis. It is necessary to conduct a number of laboratory and instrumental studies for autoimmune and systemic diseases, and consult a specialist.
