Package No. 48 ‘Genetics. Osteoporosis’ is a comprehensive examination elaborated to assess the risks of osteoporosis and identify its cause.
Osteoporosis is a chronic progressive disease of the skeleton, characterized by a decrease in bone density, increased bone fragility, which is caused by the predominance of resorption processes over the formation of bone tissue.
An important role in the progression of osteoporosis is played by metabolic disorders and decreased sensitivity to vitamin D. Together with COL1A1, VDR plays a major role in osteogenesis and mineral metabolism.
Indications for the appointment of the test: osteoporosis in close relatives, with a history of frequent fractures, hyperfunction of the parathyroid glands in the patient's history or in close relatives, the decision to take vitamin D supplements.
When and who needs the test?
The package is recommended to be prescribed if the genetic nature of the occurrence of bone tissue disorders (frequent fractures, osteoporosis) is suspected.
