Description
Latex allergies are primarily caused by sensitization to the protein components of this natural material.
Latex is the processed sap of the Hevea rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) with the addition of several chemicals to give the necessary properties. Latex is found in many products and medical materials: balloons, elastic bands, stockings, shoes, rubber boots, air mattresses, car and bicycle tires, rubber gloves, baby socks, scuba suits, elastic clothing parts, anesthetic, drainage and infusion products, bottle caps, inhalation masks and catheters, etc.
Latex allergy can manifest as simple contact dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, an immediate allergic reaction (it can manifest as rhinitis with symptoms like those of hay fever, cause conjunctivitis, colic, rash and severe itching). In rare cases, allergies may manifest as an accelerated heartbeat, shivering, chest pain, difficulty breathing, and anaphylactic reactions. Determination of specific immunoglobulin E in increased amounts indicates the presence of sensitization of the body to this allergen.

Recommended when searching for the cause of an allergy with year-round symptoms; in the presence of clinical manifestations of an allergic disease in the development of which the association with latex hypersensitivity is suspected.
