Description
Microscopic fungi are a frequent cause of severe bronchial asthma, year-round allergic rhinitis, allergic sinusitis and other respiratory allergies.
Spores and fragments of mould fungi are ubiquitous and can grow in the right humidity in food storage, on soiled wallpaper, in waste bins, on synthetic materials that keep damp for long periods, in air conditioners, flower pots. Cladosporium herbarum is found mainly outdoors and on plants. Concentration of the fungus spores in the air in our latitudes increases during spring, summer and autumn, and decreases during winter.
When and who needs the test?
It is advisable in patients with symptoms of allergy (uretic and papular rash on the skin, swelling of mucous membranes, rhinitis, lacrimation, bronchospasm, bronchial asthma, etc.), appearing immediately or shortly after contact with mould fungi (moulds, dust).
