9160. Smooth muscle, total antibodies (ASMA, method IFT)
Description
Anti-smooth muscle antibodies are autoantibodies that are formed against actin and other proteins because of destruction of liver cells. They appear in the body with autoimmune hepatitis.
A test for these antibodies is carried out if there is jaundice, itching, enlargement of the liver and spleen, esophageal veins, bleeding gums, joint pain, chest pain.
The analysis is used for differential diagnosis of autoimmune and viral hepatitis in combination with other tests: liver tests, antinuclear antibodies and antibodies to antigens of autoimmune liver diseases.
When and who needs the test?
Diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis (for a comprehensive study), screening of patients with chronic hepatitis B and C before starting interferon therapy.
