Description
Lemon is widely used in cooking – for making juice and in baking and is a preservative of color. Oils from lemon peels are used in the manufacture of perfumes as well as to flavor beverages and other products.
Allergy manifestations can develop within minutes or within two hours of consuming a lemon and/or coming into contact with the peel of the fruit. In some cases, sensitivity to the sun – phytophotodermatosis – may occur after contact with lemon.
Lemon allergy, like other citrus fruits, is one of the most common causes of contact dermatitis and is usually accompanied by digestive dysfunction:

- itching in the mouth;
- metallic taste;
- cramps or vomiting.
Determination of specific immunoglobulin E in increased quantity, indicates the presence of sensitization of the organism to this allergen; allows to estimate the relation between the level of antibodies and clinical manifestations of allergy; allows to predict the development of future allergy and a more severe manifestation of allergy symptoms.
