Description
Apricots are classified as food allergens with an average degree of allergenic activity (without considering individual characteristics). Apricot can cause allergic reactions both fresh and dried, and because of the use of cosmetics containing its natural extracts.
Allergic reactions are manifested in the form of edema of the mucous membranes and skin, eye damage with the onset of conjunctivitis. There are skin rashes like urticaria, more often on the face and hands. The respiratory system is involved with signs of allergic rhinitis, sore throat, coughing, shortness of breath, and even suffocation. From the gastrointestinal tract, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and stool disorders are possible. In the most severe cases, allergies can reach the development of anaphylactic shock.
When and who needs the test?
- Identification of sensitization to apricot in children and adults;
- determination of possible causes of allergic diseases: diseases of the digestive system, respiratory system, skin, anaphylaxis if skin tests are impossible;
- control of ongoing drug treatment or allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT).
