Description
Allergic reactions to chicken meat occur in 0.6-5% of those with food allergies. Allergy to chicken meat can be primary or secondary.
Secondary allergy is a manifestation of cross-reactivity to proteins similar to allergens of related chicken eggs or bird feathers. Having asthma or atopic dermatitis increases the chance of developing a chicken allergy.
When and who needs the test?
- recommended for the diagnosis of sensitization to chicken meat in patients with allergic diseases (food allergy, acute and chronic urticaria, angioedema, atopic dermatitis, bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis);
- to assess the risk of developing allergic reactions to chicken meat.
