9043. Marker of bone resorption (Bone TRAP 5b)
Description
Tartrate-Resistant Acid Phosphatase (TRAP) is an enzyme secreted by osteoclasts. Its level in the blood increases in cases of enhanced bone tissue resorption. The concentration of TRAP-5b may increase in various conditions associated with accelerated bone resorption, namely: osteoporosis, Paget’s disease, and hyperparathyroidism. Measurement of TRAP-5b levels is also used to monitor antiresorptive therapy, hormone replacement therapy, and bisphosphonate treatment.
