Description
Analysis of CAG repeat number in the androgen receptor gene (AR) is a molecular genetic DNA test performed on peripheral blood that determines the length of a polymorphic region of the gene. The number of CAG repeats influences tissue sensitivity to androgens and may be associated with reproductive dysfunction, hypogonadism, impaired spermatogenesis, and certain hereditary conditions.
When and who needs the test?
- male infertility of unexplained origin;
- oligo-, astheno-, or teratozoospermia;
- reduced testosterone levels;
- clinical signs of androgen insensitivity;
- delayed or impaired sexual development;
- suspected hereditary conditions associated with CAG repeat expansion.
