Important information
*The prepared biomaterial is delivered in a tube with Amies transport medium. Sampling is performed by a physician.
Description
Wound culture is a bacteriological test that allows determination of the qualitative and quantitative composition of wound microflora and assessment of its antibiotic susceptibility. If microbial growth is detected, an antibiotic susceptibility test with MIC (minimal inhibitory concentration) is performed – a parameter that helps the physician select the most effective antibacterial drug for treatment.
When and who needs the test?
- open infected wounds, burns, bedsores, ulcers associated with osteomyelitis, diabetic foot ulcers;
- suspected bacterial inflammation;
- prescription of antibiotic therapy and monitoring of treatment effectiveness.
Biological material
- Various types of biological material depending on the test
Preparing for biomaterial sampling from a wound
Medical manipulation. Imported material in a tube with the transport medium 'Amies'.
- The day before, 6-8 hours (night) before collecting the material, cancel all medications, procedures, antibacterial dressings.
- At the time of treatment control – 14 days after the end of the course of antibacterial/antimicrobial...
