Description
Bacteriological examination of prostatic secretion is a microbiological study aimed at identifying the etiological factor of infectious and inflammatory changes in the prostate gland. It allows for the assessment of the microbiological composition of prostatic secretion, detection of pathogenic and conditionally pathogenic microorganisms, and determination of their sensitivity to antimicrobial agents. The antibiotic susceptibility test with MIC (minimal inhibitory concentration) helps the physician choose the most effective antibacterial therapy.
Automated identification of microorganisms is performed using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry on the MALDI Biotyper sirius IVD System analyzer (Bruker, Germany).
When and who needs the test?
- For men with signs of prostate inflammation (pain in the perineum, discomfort in the lower abdomen, frequent or painful urination).
- In cases of suspected prostatitis, urethritis, epididymitis, or other infections of the genitourinary system.
- For men with fertility disorders (reduced sperm quality).
- For men with recurrent urinary tract infections.
- To select effective antibiotic therapy or to assess treatment outcomes in cases of chronic or recurrent inflammatory conditions.
