Description
Bacteriological examination of throat material with an antibiotic susceptibility test is aimed at detecting infection with golden staphylococcus. The analysis is used as part of the diagnosis of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract and ENT organs, to determine their etiology, confirm or exclude golden staphylococcus as a bacterial factor in such diseases or their complications. Determining the sensitivity of Staphylococcus aureus to antibiotics with MIC (minimal inhibitory concentration) makes it possible, taking into account the distribution of the drug in the body, to rationally and individually select antibiotics for treatment.
When and who needs the test?
- In cases of prolonged or recurrent tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, sinusitis.
- If a bacterial etiology of ENT diseases is suspected.
- To detect asymptomatic carriage of Staphylococcus aureus in employees of the food, medical, or educational sectors.
- In cases of frequent respiratory infections, weakened immunity, or after viral illnesses.
- As a screening test before hospitalization or surgery.
Biological material
- Various types of biological material depending on the test
Preparing for pharyngeal swab taking
- The sample is collected before the start of treatment with antibacterial/antifungal drugs.
- In case of treatment monitoring – after the end of the course of antibacterial/antifungal drugs after 14 days.
- The throat swab is collected on an empty stomach or 3-4 hours after eating and drinking (water, coffee,...
