Description
Ticks can carry several pathogens simultaneously, so co-infections with similar clinical manifestations (fever, weakness, headache, myalgia, intoxication, changes in blood tests) are possible following a tick bite. A comprehensive approach enables rapid differential diagnosis and ensures that combined infections are not missed.
The comprehensive panel "Diagnosis of tick-borne infections: Borrelia burgdorferi, TBEV, Babesia spp., Anaplasma spp." is a molecular genetic test that simultaneously detects DNA/RNA of the main causative agents of vector-borne infections transmitted through tick bites: Borrelia burgdorferi, causing borreliosis/Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), Babesia spp. (babesiosis), and Anaplasma spp. (anaplasmosis). The test enables confirmation of infection at early stages and facilitates differential diagnosis in cases of fever following a tick bite.
When and who needs the test?
Indications for ordering the comprehensive panel "Diagnosis of tick-borne infections" include:
- suspected tick-borne infections in patients with fever, chills, myalgia, and headache following a tick bite;
- anemia, thrombocytopenia, and leukopenia on complete blood count;
- elevated hepatic enzyme activity;
- complex epidemiological history, stay in endemic regions;
- differential diagnosis of infectious diseases with similar symptoms (anaplasmosis, babesiosis, borreliosis, tick-borne encephalitis);
Biological material
- Venous blood
Preparing for a blood test
In order to exclude factors that may affect the test results, we recommend to follow the preparation rules:
- an important condition for laboratory tests is to take blood on an empty stomach.
- 6-12 hours before the test, you should avoid eating, drinking alcohol, smoking, and limit physical activity. Drinking...
