Description
This is a modern PCR test that detects Helicobacter pylori bacteria without gastroscopy. In addition to identifying the presence of the bacterium, the test determines whether it carries mutations that make it resistant to clarithromycin – one of the main antibiotics used to treat this infection.
The test is recommended for adults and children. It allows selection of the most effective therapy based on the specific strain’s characteristics. This personalized approach helps avoid ineffective treatment, shorten recovery time, and reduce the risk of complications
When and who needs the test?
Testing is recommended for adults and children before starting eradication therapy to select the most effective regimen, in case of treatment failure or recurrence of symptoms after therapy.
Indications for testing:
- Symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders;
- Chronic gastritis (confirmed by endoscopy or histology);
- Gastric or duodenal ulcer disease;
- Family history of gastric cancer or other risk factors for gastroduodenal diseases;
- Before first-line eradication therapy, especially in regions with high clarithromycin resistance;
- Increased risk of complications (e.g., long-term NSAID use);
- After unsuccessful previous eradication of H. pylori.
