Description
Mycoplasma pneumoniae (Mp) causes upper respiratory tract infections (runny nose, cough, sore throat, headache) and can also lead to pneumonia, which is often accompanied by a prolonged cough.
A highly sensitive and specific PCR test allows for the detection of bacterial infections caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae. PCR diagnostics can identify the infection as soon as symptoms appear, as well as in asymptomatic carriers of M. pneumoniae, ensuring the correct prescription of therapy.
When and who needs the test?
- Atypical pneumonia, especially in individuals at high risk of infection generalization (due to immunodeficiencies);
- pneumonias resistant to antibiotic therapy;
- septic conditions of unclear etiology;
- persistent upper respiratory tract infections;
- assessment of treatment effectiveness.
Biological material
- Scrapes from various sites depending on the test
