Description

This test detects herpes virus type 7 (HHV-7) in the genital mucosa. Quantitative PCR helps assess the viral load on the mucous membranes. It is used for inflammatory processes or recurrent infections, especially in patients with weakened immune systems.

Human herpesvirus 7 (HHV-7) is a DNA virus closely related to HHV-6, which most people become infected with in early childhood. After initial infection, it remains latent in the body. However, under immunosuppression or chronic stress, it can reactivate and cause inflammation, rashes, discomfort, or other viral infections, including in the urogenital area.

PCR testing of urogenital swabs allows for the detection of HHV-7 DNA directly on the genital mucosa.

Quantitative viral load testing allows for:

  • assessing the degree of infection activity;
  • confirming the diagnosis in cases of mild symptoms;
  • monitoring the effectiveness of treatment or viral reactivation.

When and who needs the test?

  • For inflammation, rashes, discomfort, or itching in the genital area.
  • For frequent or atypical urogenital infections, if other pathogens are not confirmed.
  • For patients with immunodeficiency (HIV, after chemotherapy, transplants).
  • To rule out an underlying viral infection before planning a pregnancy or undergoing surgery.
  • For protracted genitourinary tract infections of unknown etiology.
  • For monitoring viral load over time or after treatment.

Biological material

  • Scrapes from various sites depending on the test

  • Collect the material before starting treatment with antibacterial/antifungal drugs (general and local action).
  • In case of treatment monitoring – 14 days after the end of the course of treatment with antibacterial/antifungal drugs.
  • Avoid sexual intercourse for 3 days.
  • Avoid douching and the use of vaginal...
