3127. PCR. Herpes virus type 6 (blood, quantification)
Description
This test helps determine whether the herpes virus type 6 (HHV-6) is active in the blood. It is useful for prolonged fever without an obvious cause, weakness, nervous system disorders, or in people with weakened immune systems. It is also used to monitor treatment.
When and who needs the test?
- Patients with fever of unknown origin.
- For encephalitis, meningitis, and seizures, especially without an established cause.
- Immunosuppressed patients (with HIV, after transplantation, chemotherapy).
- If systemic or generalized HHV-6 infection is suspected.
- Newborns – with possible intrauterine infection.
- To monitor viral reactivation and the effectiveness of antiviral therapy.
