Important information
* For this test, you must submit the first morning urine sample in a vacuum tube containing boric acid.
* Please purchase a special urine collection kit in advance (which includes a container with a needle holder and a vacuum tube containing boric acid).
Description
Quantitative EBV PCR in urine detects viral DNA in cases of systemic or genitourinary infection. The test is used to monitor patients with immunosuppression, HIV, suspected reactivation, or EBV-associated kidney and urinary tract infection.
When and who needs the test?
- Patients with HIV/AIDS, immunosuppression, organ or bone marrow transplantation – to monitor EBV activity.
- In cases of EBV-associated lymphomas, especially with suspected systemic dissemination.
- In cases of unexplained urinary tract inflammation or persistent hematuria without a bacterial pathogen.
- As an adjunctive test for high viral loads in other biospecimens (blood, saliva).

- Urine is collected before the start of treatment with antibacterial/antifungal drugs.
- In case of treatment monitoring – 14 days after the end of the course of treatment with antibacterial/antifungal drugs.
- Urine cannot be collected from bed linen or a urine bag.
