3057. PCR. Epstein-Barr virus (saliva, quantification)
Description
Quantitative EBV PCR in saliva allows detection of active viral replication in the oropharynx. This noninvasive method is used to diagnose and monitor EBV infection, particularly in children, adolescents, immunosuppressed patients, or when viral reactivation is suspected.
When and who needs the test?
- Patients with symptoms of infectious mononucleosis (fever, sore throat, lymphadenopathy).
- Adolescents and students who are at high risk of household or contact infection.
- In pregnant women – to detect viral shedding in chronic EBV.
- In children – to screen for active virus infection without drawing blood.
- Patients with immunodeficiency, oncohematological pathology, or after transplantation – to assess the phase of infection or monitor reactivation.
