3009. PCR. Herpes virus type 1/2 (blood, qualitative determination)
Description
PCR testing for herpes simplex virus type 1/2 in blood is a highly sensitive method for detecting active HSV infection in cases of viremia. It is used for uncomplicated or systemic cases, especially in immunocompromised patients.
When and who needs the test?
- Patients with severe or atypical herpes.
- For symptoms of herpes infection in internal organs (liver, brain, lungs).
- People with immunodeficiency (HIV, organ transplant recipients, cancer patients).
- For acute, suspected herpes symptoms without external manifestations.
- Newborns – to rule out generalized neonatal herpes infection.
- Pregnant women – for severe herpes symptoms or suspected fetal infection.
- To confirm viremia as part of a comprehensive viral diagnosis.
