3007. PCR. Cytomegalovirus (blood, qualitative determination)
Description
PCR testing allows detection of cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA in the blood, even at early stages of infection. It is particularly relevant in cases of immunosuppression, during pregnancy, in newborns, and for the differential diagnosis of CMV infection.
When and who needs the test?
- establishment of the etiological factor in conditions clinically like the manifestations of cytomegalovirus infection;
- control of persistence and isolation of the virus;
- diagnosis of reactivation in immunocompromised patients;
- diagnosis of congenital CMV infection in children;
- assessment of human contagiousness – detection of virus isolation with various biological fluids.

In order to exclude factors that may affect the test results, we recommend to follow the preparation rules:
