Description
The test includes the determination of specific IgE antibodies to four major insect venoms: honeybee (Apis mellifera), common wasp (Vespula vulgaris), hornet (Vespa crabro), and paper wasp (Polistes dominulus), as well as markers of cross-reactivity — MUXF3 (CCD) and bromelain.
The analysis helps confirm IgE-mediated sensitization to Hymenoptera venoms, differentiate between true allergy and false-positive results caused by cross-reactive carbohydrate determinants (CCD), and assess the risk of systemic reactions or anaphylaxis after repeated stings.
The test results provide important information for clinical decision-making, including the consideration of allergen-specific immunotherapy.
When and who needs the test?
The test is recommended for patients with a history of systemic reactions after insect stings, individuals with occupational exposure (beekeepers, gardeners, forestry workers), and patients with mastocytosis or other mast cell disorders who have an increased risk of severe anaphylaxis.
Diagnosis of Hymenoptera venom allergy is recommended in the following situations:
- previous severe reactions to insect stings, including anaphylaxis, angioedema, or systemic urticaria;
- suspected cross-sensitization to honeybee venom;
- preventive assessment in individuals with a high risk of exposure (gardeners, beekeepers, foresters, rangers, forestry workers);
- preparation for allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) to reduce the risk of severe reactions;
- risk assessment in children with a family history of insect venom allergy.

Preparing for a blood test
In order to exclude factors that may affect the test results, we recommend to follow the preparation rules:
- an important condition for laboratory tests is to take blood on an empty stomach.
- 6-12 hours before the test, you should avoid eating, drinking alcohol, smoking, and limit physical activity. Drinking...
