2528. Allergen. Extract. Common mouse (w14), IgE antibodies
Description
Pigweed (Amaranthus spp.) is a widespread weed whose pollen may cause seasonal respiratory, ocular, and cutaneous allergic manifestations during the summer–autumn period. Sensitization to pigweed is frequently accompanied by cross-reactive responses with other weeds – including ragweed, mugwort, and sunflower – as well as with certain food products, particularly tomatoes and potatoes. Determination of specific IgE antibodies enables confirmation of the IgE-mediated nature of symptoms and assessment of the clinical significance of sensitization. The test helps establish the role of pigweed extract as a potential trigger of symptoms and differentiate it among other pollen allergens.
When and who needs the test?
For the diagnosis of allergic diseases associated with sensitization to inhalant and food allergens in children and adults (bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis, respiratory allergies, etc.).
